  • Charina Makovsky

Charina began her yoga journey in 2004 with a desire to find peace and equanimity in her fast paced life as a fashion designer, business owner and mother.  From her very first practice on the mat, Charina found how yoga provided an unparalleled reprieve from stress and reminded her of the opportunity for calm and reflection during difficult times. Since 2004 Charina feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to study and practice various traditions from Ashtanga, Iyengar, Yin and Restorative yoga. In 2011, she was inspired to share the benefits of the practice through her work as a social worker at a skilled nursing facility where Charina found how movement and breath work benefited patients. Since then, Charina has gone on to teach many populations including young children, teens, elder adults, athletes, engineers, expecting and postpartum moms.

Charina is passionate in empowering students to tap into their own inner well of strength and is thrilled to join Mountain Sangha to continue her service in helping students receive the healing benefits of yoga and to find freedom and ease both on and off the mat. When she is not on the mat practicing or teaching, you can find her spending quality time with her family, soaking in the sun with a book in hand, and creating floral portrait artwork with flowers she grow in her garden. • Jenn Hicklin

My heart beats to the rhythm of laughter, the love of my family, the soft fur of my dogs, and the whispers of the spirit. There is nothing more precious than those I love and who love me. Some of my deepest connections are with animals and Mother Nature. I've found profound healing and connection through massage, reiki, breathwork, and the sacred spaces created in ceremony. These practices have become a way to honor the divine within myself and others, and I'm honored to share these gifts with those seeking a deeper sense of peace and belonging. I believe in the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, and I strive to create experiences that foster deep relaxation, spiritual exploration, and a renewed sense of self. Decades of living on this planet has shown me many things that I would love to share. I believe that when we love all and serve all, the rest falls into place.

I have been practicing yoga since the age of 18. When I was in my early thirties I walked into my first hot yoga class at and it was love at first sweat!! I have training in Vinyasa flow and I am a certified Modo hot yoga teacher. Modo yoga is a form of hot Hatha yoga that incorporates many of the Bikram postures plus flow and core building asanas. I am one of just a few certified Modo yoga teachers in Northern California. Due to my background in dance, I encourage all my students to find the dance in their yoga practice. This is done with a fun easy flow approach that never compromises the integrity of correct alignment and core building. You will usually find yourself flowing to music in my classes! My class is accessible to beginners and more seasoned yoga practitioners alike. Come prepared to breathe, dig deep, and open your heart.
